On Friday, protestors rallied downtown in what they declared an “Orange Alert.” They demanded that the government pull out of the war in Iraq and prevent the bombing of Iran. Protestors included students from Columbia, NYU, John Jay, and the New School.
Protesters, Politicians, Police and Patriots. The New York City streets were electric this Friday.
It was Operation Orange: Drive out the Bush regime. The event was a
protest telling Bush to get out of Iraq and stay out of Iran.
Sweet: It’s the third Iraq memoratium and we’re out here protesting
the continuation of this illegitimate, immoral occupation and war
against Iraq and we’re demanding no attack on Iran and Bush and Cheney
have to be driven out of office now.
The event started at City Hall, where politicians spoke out about
the war. The next stop was Union Square where hundreds of protesters
gathered, wearing orange, and united in the fight against the Iraq War
and proposed attack on Iran. The protest passed by two companies
supplying the military and US government.
Sweet: We went to Bechtel Corporation, which is one of the biggest
worldwide companies that’s involved in all sorts of direct war
profiteering and has actually been paid billions of dollars by the US
government to carry out this occupation of Iraq. We went to L3, which
is allegedly another private contractor that has connections to
torture, surveillance equipment.
The protestors hope not only to hold war profiteers accountable for
their actions, but also to encouraged all US citizens to speak out
against all unnecessary military action around the world.
