Compromise…that’s
what “they” call it. I call it yet another sell-out. Tuesday May 22,2007
Congressional Democrats caved in on their
previous insistence that any war spending measure be included with a date for
withdrawing our troops from Iraq.
In
November the American people sent a clear message at the ballot box. WE WANT
OUT! It appears once again our voices have fallen upon very deaf ears. This is the
first time Democrats have publicly agreed to allow a vote on war financing
without a timetable for the removal of troops.
Shame, shame on them!
One World Can’t Wait National Full-Time Office Staffer put it this way, “This is
inexplicable, disgusting and very serious. It shows that they, too (Dems) are
part of the ruling structure. They are interested in empire building, despite
what their constituents say!”. Bob Parsons, Coodinator of the National office of World Can’t Wait said, “This makes it clear, Bush is still setting the terms, and it is his agenda that is being followed.”
MSNBC commentator, Keith Oberman stated in a very long “Special Comment” section of his show described this turn of events as “a shameless, bipartison betrayal”.
This battle
has been waged since February 5,2007 when Bush first requested the additional
funding. As always, adamantly refusing to accept any constraints, Bush has made clear he would accept no limits on
scheduling our withdrawal or even any timid “benchmark” moments to be attached to his war.
So much for the Lame Duck. This is yet another example of why we can not afford to let the pressure up on the Bush Crime Family
Theories
abound regarding the spineless nature of the retraction of the necessity for a
dated withdrawal. Some think the Democrats
are concerned that they might appear weak or indifferent to our troops.
Needless
to say, this recent concession is not sitting well with Anti-War activists who
have begged and screamed for a foreseeable end to this never ending conflict.
Last week,
Senator Russell Feingold (D) of Wisconsin
unsuccessfully pushed for a withdrawal of combat troops by spring. He said,
“There has been a lot of tough talk from members of Congress about wanting to
end this war, but it looks like the desire for political comfort won over real
action.” He continued, “Congress should have stood strong, acknowledged the
will of the American people, and insisted on a bill requiring a real change of
course in Iraq.”
In
typical Washington fashion, Representative Rahm Emanuel, Chairman of the House
Democratic Caucus said, “I view this as the beginning of the end of the
president’s policy on Iraq””HUH?!! Wish I lived on his planet!
In
ending I”d like to reiterate two quotes from The Call, “There is not going to be
some savior from the Democratic Party.” .””Silence and paralysis are
NOT acceptable”
