As people were dying in Iraq (655,000 Iraqis and over 3,000 US troops to date), Rep. Rahm Emanuel, Democratic Caucus chairman, attempted to tell the media about the Democrats’ new ethics legislation. How a government official can talk about “ethics” when they refuse to end legalized torture or the ongoing murderous occupation of Iraq is indeed baffling. In fact, it’s outrageous.
This attempt to act like the new Democratic majority in Congress was doing something in the interests of the people, however, was disrupted when anti-war protestors, including Cindy Sheehan, chanted demands to end the war. Emanuel was unable to quiet them or finish his speech.
As the Democrats attempt to find common ground with Bush and allow the war to continue, this kind of disruption is right on time.
